I am a certified and registered Biokineticist based in the vibrant community of Potchefstroom. I completed my honours in Biokinetics in 2016 and commenced my professional journey in the Krugersdorp region, where I gained valuable experience in wellness and orthopaedic conditions.
During this period, I had the privilege of working on the Wellness Program and Return-To-Work Program at Harmony Gold Mine (Randfontein & Welkom). In the Wellness Program, I conducted functional screenings for mineworkers at risk, prescribing exercise programs to mitigate primary risk factors. In the Return-To-Work Program, my role involved assessing traumatic injuries and assisting patients in their return to work through corrective exercise programs. Key takeaways from this experience include working in a multi-disciplinary environment and encountering various orthopaedic injuries, including traumatic and 'crush' injuries.
As the First Team Cricket Biokineticist at Monument Hoerskoel (High School), my responsibilities included screening players for injury risk, implementing injury prevention conditioning, improving techniques, and providing strapping. Emphasis was placed on teamwork and injury prevention.
At Netcare Pinehaven Hospital (Eugene Jv Rensburg Biokineticist), I specialized in orthopaedic rehabilitation, covering pre and post-operative treatment, also engaging in a sporting clinic where a multi-disciplinary approach was a key aspect of this role.
In late 2019, I expanded my scope of practice by joining a practice at Milpark Hospital. This move exposed me to a diverse range of cardiorespiratory conditions, notably cystic fibrosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and lung transplants. While continuing to treat orthopaedic conditions, this exposure to respiratory rehabilitation ignited my love for helping people through biokinetics.
My passion lies in the comprehensive treatment and management of a diverse spectrum of health conditions through scientifically grounded physical activity programs.Â
My ultimate objective is to guide and empower patients through rehabilitation, enabling them to resume daily activities with enhanced functionality, reduced pain and reduced risk of re-injury or hospitalization. By fostering collaborative efforts within a dynamic multi-disciplinary setting alongside esteemed medical professionals, I prioritize patient well-being and ensure a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation.
